An Interview with Rachele Brooke SmithBring It On: Fight to the Finish DVD Showcases Hot New Talent
Cheerseum, cheermare, cheermigrants, cheergasm, cheeriokiller - the lexicon of the mean cheerleader in So Cal.
An Hispanic teenager from South Central (Christina Milian) finds herself moving all the way uptown to Malibu when her mother remarries in the third episode of the cheerleading franchise. She faces racism right out of the gate as snobby uber rich girl (Rachele Brooke Smith) attempts to humiliate her into submission. Their competitive natures clash badly as they duke it out for the All Star Cheerleading Award and neither is ready to lay it down. There is too much at stake for their reputation and cool factor. Rachel Brooke Smith: Hardworking Young TalentSmith is a gorgeous, willowy and exceedingly accomplished athlete and performer who was interviewed during a recent quick trip to Toronto. She is anything but a snob or domineering. Smith is an impressive 21 year old who works hard for various charitable organisations, is active in her church and highly disciplined. Here’s what she’s studying - ballet, disco, hip hop, tap, line, tango, modern, salsa, break, ballroom, club/freestyle, swing, aerobics, boxing, track & field, soccer, rollerblading, baseball, gymnastics, swimming, cycling, basketball, tennis, martial arts, golf, singing, voiceover, improvisation and piano. She’s also studying accents with special focus on British, Midwest and Southern. “I have to start working on taking some time off”, Smith says wistfully. You know she won’t because she is singlemindedly dedicated to improving herself and her abilities, not just for her career, but also for her personal enrichment. Smith Teaches Jim Carrey How to DanceSmith’s day begins with a heavy workout, then any combination of the above classes and school. So Smith was the one to call when director Billie Woodruff cast roles for what would be a physically arduous shoot. The cheerleading squads had just three weeks to learn 27 routines. Naturally, she aced them. Smith’s hard work has no gone unnoticed. She will appear in Motion Capture as a dancer in the Ghost of Christmas Present in the Jim Carrey’s holiday extravaganza, A Christmas Carol. “We worked with Jim and taught him how to dance!” For now, Smith will continue with her university studies as a psychology major and prepare to begin her work towards a Masters in Human Services and Management. She makes sure she finds time to continue teaching children dancing and acting and mentoring young woman and children. In addition to this superhuman schedule, she works on behalf of the homeless. Smith is woman of vision and intense discipline - a lesson to all of us regardless of age.
